Smart Collections
Rule-Based Categories
Last updated: July 3, 2026
A smart collection is a category that fills itself from rules instead of manual product assignment. Define the rules once and matching products appear automatically as your catalog changes.
Turning a Category Into a Smart Collection #
Edit a category (Admin → Catalog → Categories) and open the Smart Collection section:
- Turn on Smart collection.
- Choose whether products must match ALL rules or ANY rule.
- Add one or more rules.
Available Rules #
Each rule is a field, an operator, and a value:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Price | Price is greater than 100 |
| Name | Name contains "Merino" |
| SKU | SKU starts with "WIN-" |
| Type | Type equals bundle |
| Is featured | Is featured equals yes |
| Created within (days) | Created within 30 days (new arrivals) |
Operators: equals, does not equal, is greater than, is less than, contains, starts with.
How It Works #
The category's storefront listing is populated by evaluating the rules against your active products — there's no manual assignment to maintain. Common uses:
- Sale — price is less than a threshold
- New arrivals — created within 14 days
- Premium — price is greater than X
- A range — name or SKU contains a keyword
Notes #
- A smart collection with no rules is empty until you add at least one.
- Matching is exact against the chosen fields; rules combine with your ALL/ANY choice.
- Manual categories are unaffected — only categories with Smart collection enabled use rules.
